Blethen Maine Newspaper sale completed
It's official. MaineToday Media Inc. has purchased the Morning Sentinel, Kennebec Journal, Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram and the Maine Today Web sites. Bangor native Richard Connor now serves as publisher and executive editor of all four publications. The sale was announced on Monday, June 15.

Bangor Daily News launches Midcoast Beacon
The Bangor Daily News has launched a new weekly newspaper, the Midcoast Beacon, which will be mailed free of charge to all homes in Waldo and Knox counties, as well as Waldoboro in Lincoln County.

Sun Media unveils MyJobWave.com
Sun Media Group, parent company of The Lewiston Sun Journal and 11 other leading local weekly newspapers, and The Employment Times have launched www.MyJobWave.com, an online site bringing job-seekers and employers in Maine and New Hampshire together.

Machias Valley News Observer adding Web site
The Machias Valley News Observer is ready to launch its own Web site - www.machiasnews.com - according to editor Karen Hinson. Although the URL is active, the content and formula is still being finalized. Hinson is also encouraging readers to submit their own photos for a gallery to be posted on the site each week. The Machias Valley News Observer has been published in Washington County since 1852, making it one of the oldest newspapers in the state. Along with Hinson, the publishers are Eugene M. Townsend, Jay B. Hinson and Patricia Townsend.

NENA names BDN, PPH, Telegram best in class
The Bangor Daily News, Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram earned top honors at March 11-13 New England Newspaper Association (NENA) Spring Publisher's Conference.

Lincoln News opens Millinocket office
The Lincoln News recently announced the opening of its Katahdin Region office on Penobscot Avenue in Millinocket.

KJ sports section honored by AP
The Kennebec Journal was recently named one of the country's top 10 Sunday Sports section in the under-20,000 circulation category in the Associated Press Sports Editors annual contest.

MD Islander wins NEPA General Excellence award
BOSTON — The Mount Desert Islander was named the best small weekly newspaper in New England, and its Web site was named the best among all weekly newspapers in the region, at the annual meeting of the New England Press Association (NEPA) on Feb. 7.
